‘From Twenty-Six To Five’ is a collaboration between my younger self and who I am now. It aims to reconnect to my pure and sometimes surreal childhood freedom.
Recently, I had a chance to look through my old sketchbooks from five to six years old. They were filled with colourful images and uncontrolled strokes, which are rarely found in my present sketchbook. As a child, drawing or creating was a source of pleasure as a form of play. Now, I have my ‘creation frame’, which is minimal, neat, and muted. It is a result of training and sometimes restricts me from being creative.
Looking back at the time when I purely enjoyed drawing as a play, I interpreted these opposites into a playful collection of woven textiles. The balance between kids’ carefree spirit and my refined inclination was realised joyfully.
